Beloved Country
In these many times since ninety four
I have grown up
And sideways too
With feet firmly planted
As nature might’ve wanted
To hold me fast from every compass
In this life that still rocks back rocks forth in time
Cupping both my ears to knit my brow
Pressing a tear from my cheek I hear
My heart’s mind murmur
And I ask now as I knew then
What became of my beloved country*

Alan Paton published ‘Cry the beloved country ‘ in 1948. Perhaps a reminder that while nostalgia creates fuzzy feelings there is a side that is also conflicted. In D6 if we were to give it a name it might be Hanover Street and only because you still feel it move below your feet like before)
